Assessment of developmental and learning needs will be on-going throughout the school year and will be through observing them frequently. We encourage children toward literacy, communication and mathematical skills from the very beginning. Reading is taught through a variety of different structured reading schemes supplemented with a wide range of other books. Books are organised in a structured, graded way to allow children many opportunities for consolidation of key vocabulary. We are always pleased to discuss ways in which parents can help their children at each stage of their reading development.

Play is a vital part of children’s development. Every opportunity to play is important as allowing children to lead their own play, and take part in play guided by adults, builds their confidence as they learn to explore, relate to others, set their own goals and solve problems. As such we encourage our children’s learning journey using play.

Our aim is to give all our children an equal opportunity to develop their talents, however great or small, to the full. We encourage the children to work steadily, improving a little more each day. We emphasize effort with praise.
