TEMPLE ALUMNUS FEATURE MARCH 2021 – Chukwunonso Nzenwa

NAME: Chukwunonso Nzenwa

My name is Chukwunonso Nzenwa, and as of July 2015, I am an alumna of Temple Secondary School.

Turning the clock back a bit, I walked through the halls of the Temple Ilupeju branch for the first time in September 2011. I was just about to begin my eighth academic year, having just transferred from a different secondary school. At this point, I was not aware of the numerous unforgettable experiences that laid across those next few years. I did not know about the trials, the laughs, the insightful lessons and the achievements spread out in front of me when I walked through the doors of the Year 8 Ayinde classroom for the very first time.

My time spent in Temple was simply foundational, even looking beyond the academic lessons that have still proven useful during my undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics. Through Temple, I attended two international conferences, the first being a technology summit held at Stanford University and a Model United Nations held in Lubeck, Germany. Through Temple, I confronted the daunting challenge of public speaking for the first time and many more times after that. I also participated in several inter-school art competitions. I was not athletic in any definition of the word, but I still managed to win a couple of bronze and silver medals in the annual Interhouse Sports’ swimming events. I was exposed to so many different and memorable experiences from attending Temple School that I would never trade away for anything.

Having taken a glimpse of the path I took as a Temple School student, we are back at our starting point of July 2015. I graduated from Secondary School as the Valedictorian of my class. Afterwards, I came back for a sixth year to take my WAEC.

I am currently in Canada as an undergraduate student at the University of Prince Edward Island, majoring in Mathematics. I am glad to have been given this opportunity to share my experiences and my journey through Temple School. I have a bad habit of always only looking straight and forward, so it was personally refreshing to sit down and reminisce about past moments that helped define the person I am today. I would like to urge anyone reading this to explore different options (academically and extracurricular-wise) to find those things you truly enjoy and are willing to strive for excellence towards, as that is what Temple School, in my experience, promotes; many varieties of opportunities to shine brightly. This is the one thing that I have been made to take to heart, having left the secondary school environment and continue to do so.

Thank you for your time.
